Detoxification of the Body – Committing to Change
Since my breast cancer diagnosis and change of lifestyle, I have eliminated processed foods, refined white sugar, and dairy products. I have concentrated on detoxification of the body and mind to bring myself back to wellness. By eliminating these harmful foods, I have supported natural detoxification of my body, an important element in restoring good health. Similar to a drug detox, I went through some unpleasant side effects. Although not as severe as with a drug detox, these symptoms (headache and nausea) were still unpleasant but only lasted a few days.
When I cook for my family, I prepare all of our meals from scratch. When I grocery shop, I buy mostly organic and stick to the outer perimeter of the supermarket – which is produce. The center sections are loaded with processed junk foods that are high in saturated fats, chemicals and preservatives. I have committed myself 100% to my new lifestyle and am reaping the benefits. I have lost 50 lbs, without even trying. I am in my best shape since before childbirth! And that is huge! I didn’t think I could ever shed the pounds that slowly crept up on me over the last several years. But, here I did it, without dieting. A lifestyle change was in order and it worked magic on me.
I have a great team of doctors. I feel secure in knowing that I am in good hands in their care. I am monitored closely to be certain I don’t have a recurrence. The tumor I had removed was an aggressive form of cancer with a high rate of recurrence. When I have blood work done every three months or so, I have seen improvements in every way. I have watched my body balance out and feel healthier than ever. I know in my heart that I am on the right track and that my breast cancer will not return. I have eliminated elements of my life that would make my chances of recurrence higher.
Research shows that I have cut my risk of recurrence substantially simply by adding a regular exercise regime to my life. It is a manageable plan, walking for 45 minutes at least 4 days per week. I make the time to fit in as it is of paramount importance. The reduction in recurrence is huge. Why not be sure to take advantage of the benefits it will provide? By cutting out saturated fats from my diet, I reduce my recurrence risk further – by a substantial amount. I stopped all consumption of alcohol, which also cuts my risk by a substantial amount. And, by strengthening my immune system, it is certain that I have made further reductions to my risk of recurrence – but unfortunately this is not measurable at this time.
I feel that with these changes, I have cut my risk more than I would have cut them by doing radiation or chemotherapy without all of the devastating side effects. I am comfortable with the decisions that I have made to support my health.
It is so important to detoxify the body. So much can build up in our systems as a result of our reliance on the SAD (standard American diet). To aid digestion, which is key to good health, detoxification helps our guts to function more optimally. I hope you will check out my many posts covering body detoxification, cleansing and diet. I provide some healthy tips and advice.
