There are so many diet plans out there that promise weight loss by eating their food or following their plan. However, the foods that comprise these plans are either frozen, pouched or dehydrated.

These prepared foods are low calorie meals that don’t offer much in the way of nutrition. These plans call for the addition at home of fresh fruits and vegetables in order to complete them. Most of the meals on these diets is highly processed and does not offer much in the way of nutrition. It is up to you to add the nutritious elements.

Also, these are not plans that you can follow over the long term. Since they lack nutrition, staying on these plans for longer than a few weeks could put your health in jeopardy. Not to mention that these plans are costly. Once you go off of them and resume your old habits, the weight comes back. In order to achieve weight loss and long term success, you need to make permanent lifestyle changes.

That being the case, why spend the money on these junky diet meals? You could prepare fresh, delicious meals at home that contain all of the nutrition you need. What’s more the healthy meals that you prepare will ensure that you are including the nutrients that you need and put you on the road for long term success.

Making lifestyle changes can improve your health dramatically. Preparing meals from scratch can cost you more in time, but save you big in dollars. Plus the improvements to your health and vitality are priceless.

Here are 11 tips that will guarantee permanent weight loss over the long term. By following them you will not only improve your health, increase your stamina and meet your long term weight loss goals. What it requires is a personal commitment to your own health. If you consider these tips not only dieting tips but a lifestyle change, you should be able to help yourself overcome the emotional attachment that you now have to unhealthy foods.

  1. Eliminate processed foods! All of them! Packaged foods are usually devoid of nutrition and filled with adulterated ingredients, chemicals and preservatives. They are comprised of calories that are empty and only serve to pack on unwanted weight to your body. If you do purchase packaged products, follow the rule of 5. If the food in question has more than 5 ingredients or contains ingredients that you cannot identify or pronounce – do not buy it! By following this tip alone, you will drop weight!
  2. Eat mostly raw foods. Fill your meals with fresh, preferably organic fruits and vegetables. With all of the raw cookbooks out there, you can create masterpieces with simple produce. You do not have to get bored with eating salads and sprouts. There are alternatives and options that are healthy and fun to create. Each day, your meals should comprise of at least 50% raw foods. By including more raw, you will be ensuring your body of the nutrients it needs. Plus, your skin will improve as will your energy level and your overall health.
  3. Drink lots of water. It is so important to stay hydrated. Be sure that you are drinking at least half of your body weight in water each day. Herbal teas count towards your water consumption. Soft drinks and sugary juices do not! If you drink juice, drink juices that you press at home. There is nothing more nutritious than freshly pressed vegetable and fruit juices.
  4. Don’t count calories. By eating the proper foods, you do not need to count calories! Once you overcome the hurdle of ridding your life of processed foods, you will stop craving unhealthy foods. It may be tough for the first few days, but it will happen. High consumption of sugar only brings about false cravings for sugar. They are false cravings because by consuming foods high in sugar, you are depriving yourself of nutrition. When your body is lacking nutrients, it starts to crave bad foods such as sugar and refined carbohydrates which do not provide the nutrition needed for good health. It becomes a detrimental cycle. The more sugar you eat, the more you crave. You need to break your body of this habit!
  5. When eating meat, choose free range, grass fed animals. This will ensure you are not consuming animals that have been pumped up with hormones or fed corn products. Free range animals are leaner and healthier. When choosing fish, choose wild caught, deep water fish such as salmon, tuna and mackerel. Make sure they are wild caught and not farm-raised. These fish are high in omega 3 fatty acids which are very important to heart health.
  6. Eat whole grains. Include whole grains into your regime. Brown rice, quinoa, spelt, and millet are great choices. Dump the processed pastas made from white or even whole wheat flour. There are pastas on the market made only from whole grains and water. Brown rice pasta and spelt pasta are great examples. These pastas are easily assimilated and won’t leave you feeling bloated and full.
  1. Snack on nuts. Raw, unsalted nuts are healthy and contain the monounsaturated fats our bodies need. You can prepare your own trail mix at home. Use a variety of raw nuts such as almonds, walnuts, brazil nuts, and pecans. Add to it dried fruits (that do not have added sugar). Add some shredded coconut and raw cacao nibs (which is the raw, unadulterated, HEALTHY form of chocolate) and you have a snack that is not only packed with nutrition but filling and satisfying.
  2. Prepare your meals from scratch. This may be the most important healthy diet tip I can bestow to you! When you make your meals at home from scratch, you are ensuring that the ingredients are pure and fresh. You will be avoiding the chemicals, additives and preservatives found in processed foods. Eating meals that are packed with nutrition is vital for long term good health. By simply avoiding processed foods, you will be improving your health. When you go food shopping, browse the aisles with your grandmother in mind. If she wouldn’t recognize ingredients or packaged foods, don’t buy them. Chances are they are filled with processed ingredients that are detrimental to your health.
  3. Eliminate sugar! There are substitutes that are healthy and nutritious. Refined process sugar is one of the most unhealthy foods you can eat. Some research has likened it to poison. Instead, sweeten foods with stevia, honey or a quality agave nectar.
  4. Say goodbye to McDonalds, KFC and Burger King! Unless you are planning to eat a salad at any one of these establishments, they offer you nothing in the way of nutrition. If you MUST eat fast and cannot find a proper, healthy alternative, Wendy’s is a better choice. There are some menu items such as baked potato (without the added fatty toppings) and salads that can at least get you through a meal without compromising your health too much. But even Wendy’s consumption should be kept to a minimum.
  5. Exercise. Even moderate exercise is beneficial. Try to work in a 30 minute brisk walk several times per week. Doing this will increase your stamina and improve your cardiac health. It will also help you shed excess weight.

Finally, buy some new clothes! If you follow these lifestyle changes you will lose weight. For certain. The information I have provided is vital. Don’t consider them diet tips, but lifestyle improvements. By making them, I lost 50 pounds without dieting. Not once have I needed to count calories or watch what I eat. When you get accustomed to eating the right foods, it becomes second nature. You will never want to go back to consuming processed junk foods again. Your palate will adapt and appreciate the natural flavor of real foods. I am eating healthy and feel younger than I have in years.
